iProject & Genius Hour
iProject is an opportunity! A student can choose a subject, topic, or idea that interests him/her… Then ask a QUESTION. This is a driving question that will guide the work. A driving question must be more than a simple answer; it can only be answered through thorough research, synthesizing that information, and creating something NEW.
This is more than Show & Tell or display or report. An iProject question might and should lead to uncertain outcomes, which might lead the student in a whole new direction. Student inquiry into his/her question should feel new to self and others. iProject is only available to students who show they can work diligently and independently. Only when all classwork is completed with the highest of quality can it occur; there must be no rushing through daily tasks to arrive at iProject. Some limits: Content must be school appropriate. Any additional supplies must come from home, and they plus any creation must fit in a student art garage. Trust is imperative. Any violation of this trust risks elimination of the iProject option. Ms. Hopkins can provide some access to technology for work/research (student and teacher can work out these details). |
